Teleconferencing Seminars

BCSLA has strived to provide a wide range of industry topics that are affordable, accessible and easy to participate in. These teleconferencing seminars allow participants to call into the session from their office or home, listen to the presenter and follow along with the presenter’s power point presentation. Each session is followed by a question and answer period.

If you wish to start your own education library the 2009 and 2010 seminars are available to purchase for $20 each seminar for members and $30 each for non members. The Difference Between Meal Service & Therapeutic Diets
21 & 26 January @ 11 am PST
Presenters: Susan Adams (Assisted Living Registrar) / Barry Ward (District Manager, Sodexo)

Learn the difference between Meal Service and Therapeutic Diets. Learn what Therapeutic Diets are NOT and what they ARE. This session will outline what is expected of operators implementing the policy and how to implement it. There will also be practical examples provided. The session will be followed by a Q&A.

Resident Occupancy Agreement
11 & 16 February @ 11 am PST

BCSLA has taken a number of member community contracts and combined all the best practices and policies to develop a BCSLA Resident Occupancy Agreement. The RTA does not apply to the senior living community and while each community does have their own contract, see how you can update your current agreement to ensure it covers all the elements similar to the RTA. This self-regulatory model will address areas that will serve the best interests of both the resident and the residence. The session will be followed by a Q&A.

Developing Personal Service Plans
16 & 25 March @ 11 am PST
Presenters: Deb Saffin (East Kootenay Regional Manager, Golden Life Management) / Carol Brown (Special Advisor, Resident and External Relations, Amica Mature Lifestyles)

This interactive session will first discuss the role and benefits of therapeutic recreation in the AL setting. Information will be shared from the recreation therapist’s standpoint as well as some input from the resident’s perspective. The second half of the session will review best practices and polices for effective entrance plans and successful exit plans. Thoughts will be shared on using the entrance conversations and planning for assisting residents, for case management, and for managers to understand and be aware of timely exit planning. The session will be followed by a Q&A.

The Difference Between Assigned & Delegated Tasks in Assisted Living
8 & 15 April @ 11 am PST
Presenters: Kathy Daly (Director of Operations & Director of Professional Practice & Development, Good Samaritan Society) / Denise Tidman (Executive Director of The Peninsula Assisted Living Community, & Board Member, BCSLA)

Using the PAG (Personal Assistance Guidelines 2008), you will learn the difference between what is an assigned task and what is a delegated task. What is the process and who is responsible for assigning and delegating tasks in both private and funded assisted living communities. The session will be followed by a Q&A.
